Aquatic Scientist

Our Client is a government agency looking to fill a temporary contract. The contract may be extended up to 2 years. This is a great opportunity for an environmental officer to work in a successful team analysing river basins in southern NSW.

Duties:

  • Develop and implement scientific investigations for key river systems in the State.
  • Promote and implement NSW Government\'s natural resource management policies and legislation.
  • Undertake data analysis / modelling.
  • Develop discussion papers/reports and management options for river health as input to natural resource management.
  • Design and undertake performance monitoring and evaluation of key water initiatives.
  • Develop opportunities for research partnerships with other scientific organisations.
  • Train and guide staff to ensure implementing and conversant with innovative technology.

Selection Criteria:


· Appropriate degree level tertiary qualifications in natural resources, environmental science or related discipline.
· Detailed working knowledge of the functioning and management of aquatic ecosystems.
· Well developed expertise in research techniques including; experimental design, instrumentation, field procedures for data collection, statistical data analysis, modelling and quality control for undertaking biological, physical and/or chemical data collection and research into aquatic ecosystems.
· Demonstrated understanding of government needs for information relating to river management, including a sound knowledge of the Water Management Act 2000.
· Proven record of achievement in project management of multi-disciplinary science projects.
· Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
· Well developed liaison, negotiation, conflict resolution, leadership and team building skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work with community interest groups.
